Postdoctoral position at the Department of Political Science, Aarhus University (fixed term full-time position1 Sep 2020 – 31 Aug 2022).
The Department of Political Science at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join the AUFF NOVA research project Political Parties and Problems (POPPRO). The starting date is 1 September 2020 or subject to mutual agreement.
The research project
POPPRO asks fundamental questions about how political parties prioritize and respond to a multitude of societal problems such global warming, drugs, and bankrupts. More exactly, the aim of POPPRO is to explore the political logic behind party attention to problems and study why some problems are overlooked while others receive disproportionate attention as well as how parties aim to influence voters’ perceptions of the problems. The project is interested in all aspects of party attention to problems and a key aim of the project is to collect a multitude of statistical problem indicators and pair them with the collection and content coding of more than 40,000 press releases from Danish and British political parties since the early 2000s.
POPPRO is relevant for applicants with an expertise in political parties, political behavior, political communication, political agenda setting, and/or public policy in advanced democracies, and method training in automated text analysis, cross-section-cross-time analysis, and/or survey experiments. More information about the content of the project is available here.
POPPRO is financed by the Aarhus University Research Fund for the period 2020-2023. The research group is led by Associate Professor Henrik Bech Seeberg.
