
Post-Doc Researcher, comparative extremism research – Hannah Arendt Institute for Research on Totalitarianism at the Technical University Dresden.
The Hannah Arendt Institute for Research on Totalitarianism (HAIT) is a research centre, funded by the Free State of Saxony (Germany), is associated with the Technische Universität Dresden and headed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Lindenberger with currently 11 researchers and 7 academic support staff. The HAIT is located on the TU Dresden campus. Its statutory mission is to explore „the political and social structures of the Nazi and the SED regimes and their consequences for shaping German unity“.
The Institute seeks to fill a Postdoc Researcher position (Full-time, 38 hours a week) in comparative extremism research, commencing in January 2020. The appointment will be on an initial fixed-term basis (three-year contract). An extension of the appointment is subject to a positive performance evaluation.
Salary scale: E 13 TV-L paygrade of the Saxonian public service. Employment is in accordance with the German Law for temporary contracts (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetzes § 2, section 1).
The main areas of research shall focus on the development of extremist ideologies, the conditions of success of right-wing extremist and populist parties, politically motivated violence as well as xenophobia and integration.
Prerequisites for employment are: a completed doctorate in the Humanities, a proven track record of academic publications, experience in research projects, international networking, knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods, and an willigness to contribute to a stimulating research environment. Proficiency in German and English is indispensable. Alongside expertise in the field of extremism research documented by publications, an eagerness to cooperate on the topic of autocracy and transformation research and the ability to acquire third-party funding for research projects are expected.
